Walker's World
Words & photos by Geoff Walker

Here's a masterclass in goggle preparation by MX1 Brit champ Josh Coppins that takes you, dear reader, into the world of a pro racer. These tips - for setting up your gogs for a wet day when the ***t is guaranteed to fly - have been learned through experience over Lizzard's long career...

Here's the gear you need. Clean goggles, drilled lens to suit your roll-off format, roll-off system with new film, no-fog cloth, scissors, Phillips screwdriver, mud flap, special tear-offs and, finally, some fishing line.

The first step is to screw the bottom side of the canisters onto the lens (the lens shown is a double-glazed anti-fog lens from Scott - Skippy swears by them as they keep his beaders blinkin'). Don't screw them up too tight at this stage.

This one's a ripper! Cut a length of fishing line from the spool and wrap it around the top and bottom of the cans, slippin' it behind and tying as shown. Make sure you get the line evenly spaced and securely fastened, then you can tighten the cans, fit the film and secure the outer half of the canisters.

The lens is now ready to fit. As with mass-produced goods, some can differ in fit slightly - a Kiwi tip is to trim back one of the locating pin areas on the lens to ease the fitting process. Skills.

A flap across the top of the roll-off system is a genius idea but make sure you fit it correctly so the film still slides easily.

Now you're ready to fit the final piece of the puzzle. Depending on conditions, fit anything between one and three tear-offs and, if it's chuckin' it down, make a mud flap out of tape to go over the top edge of the tear-offs. If you are struggling to get tear-offs for a roll-off system ask your local dealer and get some Rip N Roll gear ordered.

Here's the finished articles prepped and ready to roll. Cheers to JC for the masterclass. Twist it...
